Today, 220 Putnam County High School students in grades 10–12 participated in an impactful presentation titled “Smart Choices, Bright Futures: Opioids and Your Brain.” Nurse Educator Jessica Swymer, MSN, RNC—an Eatonton resident from Putnam General Hospital—shared valuable information about how opioids affect brain chemistry and the link between emotional health and addiction.

She also equipped students with practical tools and healthy strategies for managing stress. The session wrapped up with a thoughtful Q&A. A special thank‑you to senior Coreyona Farley for recording the presentation so parents and community members will be able to view it on our school website.

Celebrating Black History Month at Putnam County High School!

Our PCHS Service Leadership class had the honor of hosting a Black-Owned Business Expo on campus today! Local entrepreneurs were invited to share their stories, inspire our students, and showcase the incredible impact Black-owned businesses have in our community.

This event was designed to promote and support local businesses while giving students a meaningful opportunity to learn directly from business owners. Students walked from booth to booth, asking questions about each owner’s journey, challenges, successes, and the wisdom they’ve gained along the way.

It was truly inspiring to watch our students engaged, curious, and motivated by real-life examples of leadership, resilience, and innovation. A huge thank you to the business owners who invested their time, energy, and experiences into our students. Your voices made a lasting impact!

Today, PCHS Work-Based Learning hosted our 4th Annual Mock Interview Fair, and we are thrilled to share that this year’s event was our largest yet! To view all the pictures from today, please visit our District Facebook page.

A total of 256 students—including CTAE juniors and seniors along with senior English students—had the opportunity to participate in real-world interview experiences. More than 20 local businesses and community partners generously volunteered their time to provide meaningful, professional feedback to help our students grow.

Events like this build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and prepare students for future careers and post-secondary paths. By working with real community professionals, students gain insight into expectations, workplace readiness, and the power of first impressions—key tools for their future success.

We are incredibly grateful for the teamwork that made today possible. Thank you to our Putnam County High School staff, the College & Career Academy Board members, and our amazing community partners for investing in our students and empowering them to shine. Together, we are building a stronger future for Putnam County!

Today middle school students took to the skies one last time to soar into Putnam County High School for their shadow day. These War Eagles landed when Flight 8 touched down right on the PCHS runway. Our PCHS Ambassadors proudly stood on the tarmac, ready to welcome the Class of 2030 with smiles, high fives, and open wings. Each rising 9th grader was matched with their very own ambassador to help guide them through the halls, classrooms, and opportunities that await them next year.

The Class of 2030 has landed and we cannot wait to see what their future holds!

Together We Soar. Go War Eagles!
