We kicked off our first Superintendent Student Advisory Council meeting of the school year today, and it was a great start!
Students enjoyed Chick-fil-A and Krispy Kreme while engaging in meaningful conversations about ways to improve the student experience at both Putnam County Middle School and Putnam County High School. They also began planning for our annual Shop with a War Eagle event and other community service initiatives.
We are excited to see these student leaders use their voices, ideas, and passion to make a positive impact in our schools and community. Here's to a productive year ahead!

FROM EATONTON TO THE CAPITAL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION. This was a remarkable day for our PCHS War Eagles. 🦅
During our 2026 Native American Homelands trip to Oklahoma, our students received a surprise special invitation to meet with Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr., Secretary of State Shella Bowlin, and Kimberly Teehee, the Cherokee Nation’s designated Delegate to Congress, in Tahlequah.
Chief Hoskin personally welcomed our students, shared gifts of welcome, spent time visiting with them, and joined us for photographs. Our students also had the privilege of presenting gifts from the Putnam County Charter School System and Putnam County High School to the Cherokee Nation as a gesture of friendship, respect, and gratitude. Our War Eagles shared messages of greeting and thanks on behalf of Mr. Austin and Mr. Patrick while also sharing their own stories and experiences with Chief Hoskin.
For a group of students from Putnam County, Georgia, to receive this kind of welcome from the leadership of a sovereign Nation was an extraordinary honor and a once-in-a-lifetime Lived Experience.
We are excited to share even more photos, stories, and unforgettable moments from our Native American Homelands journey in the days ahead. From meaningful cultural experiences to unforgettable opportunities like this, our students have experienced an incredible adventure across Oklahoma, and we can't wait to tell the rest of the story.

Last night’s Board of Education meeting was filled with moments of pride as we recognized some truly outstanding members of the PCCSS family.
We had the pleasure of honoring our September Superintendent’s Students of the Month, students who truly exemplify what it means to be a leader both inside and outside the classroom. These students demonstrate academic growth and achievement while consistently displaying character, kindness, perseverance, and respect. They encourage those around them, treat teachers, staff, and fellow students with dignity, work hard, and maintain positive attitudes that inspire others every day.
Please join us in congratulating:
• Jorge Lopez, Putnam County Primary School
• Leah Jackson (not pictured), Putnam County Elementary School
• Cheyenne Copeland, Putnam County Middle School
• Joelyn Madden, Putnam County High School
We also celebrated another outstanding achievement as the PCCSS Finance Department was recognized for earning both the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.
These prestigious awards reflect PCCSS's continuous commitment to transparency, accountability, and the highest standards of financial reporting. Even more impressive, this marks the 12th consecutive year that our Finance Department has earned recognition for excellence at the state, national, or international level. Congratulations to our dedicated Finance Department for continuing this tradition of exceptional stewardship and service to our schools and community.
👏 Join us in celebrating our outstanding students and staff who make PCCSS a place of excellence every day!

PCHS Students Explore Science and History Through Virtual Reality
*View more pictures and video on the PCHS Facebook page.
The PCHS Media Center recently transformed into an immersive learning environment as students had the opportunity to explore curriculum concepts through Virtual Reality (VR) experiences.
Students in Mr. Abney's Science classes used VR technology to deepen their understanding of the cell cycle and the stages of mitosis. Through interactive, 3D simulations, students were able to observe cellular processes in ways that brought complex scientific concepts to life and enhanced classroom learning.
Meanwhile, students from Dr. Moritimer's and Ms. Garvin's classes traveled back in time through virtual experiences focused on Civil War battles and trench warfare. These immersive activities allowed students to gain a deeper appreciation for historical events by exploring environments and situations that shaped our nation's history.
Virtual Reality provides students with unique opportunities to engage with content in meaningful and memorable ways. By combining innovative technology with classroom instruction, PCHS continues to create learning experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and deeper understanding.
We are excited to offer these engaging opportunities and look forward to expanding innovative learning experiences for our students in the future.
