The culmination of Putnam County High School's Service Leadership class is not merely an academic checkpoint, but a profound display of personal growth, community impact, and leadership evolution. Last night, students gathered at the Plaza Arts Center to present their individual leadership mission, vision, and value statements before an audience of nearly 100 guests, including school and district administrators, faculty, families, and community supporters. The evening served as both a celebration and a reflection of the transformative journey these students have experienced throughout the school year.
The significance of this culminating event was deepened by the students’ commitment to service, as members of the class collectively completed nearly 100 hours of service through meaningful projects and initiatives designed to strengthen both their school and surrounding community. More than simply a presentation, the event marked a milestone in each student’s development as a servant leader prepared to make a lasting impact beyond the classroom.
The evening’s theme centered around an Eastern tradition of embodying thankfulness and gratitude; the idea that gratitude is not simply spoken, but lived through action, remembrance, and service to others. Students were encouraged to not only say “thank you,” but to “BECOME the thank you” through the way they lead, serve, and care for others in their daily lives.
The event was catered by China Wok, further creating an atmosphere of community, appreciation, and celebration. Through sharing their stories, reflections, and leadership philosophies, students inspired not only their peers, but the broader community as well, reinforcing the belief that leadership and service are inseparable paths toward both personal and communal growth.

Juniors in Dr. Mortimer’s AP United States History course wrapped the second season of the “Complexity Points” podcast with an epic finale covering the full sweep of the American story. Each week, the classroom transforms into a recording studio as students produce their own episodes of Complexity Points. The weekly podcast trains War Eagles to think like historians by considering how our shared histories are connected, complicated, and shaped by different people, ideas, and turning points across time.
Built around the College Board historical thinking skills framework, the podcast prepares sets students up for success on the AP test by challenging them to synthesize evidence, recognize patterns across eras, and think about history with the depth expected in true college-level work. The result is a lively exchange of ideas where students debate major historical questions, respectfully challenge one another’s thinking, and sharpen their ability to make arguments about the past by telling stories accountable to evidence.
Wish our War Eagles luck as they sit for the AP United States History Exam today, a demanding national college-level exam that gives students the opportunity to earn college credit.

What a truly special evening it was as we celebrated our talented Young Georgia Authors at a reception hosted at the Georgia Writers Museum last night. First, second, and third place winners from each grade level, kindergarten through twelfth grade, were recognized for their outstanding writing achievements. 📖
One of the most exciting moments of the night was watching our first-place winners see their writing brought to life as a book of their own—an unforgettable experience for these young authors. In addition, our SEVEN region winners were honored with trophies in recognition of their exceptional accomplishments.
Judging by the promise shown in their work, it’s not hard to imagine some of these authors appearing on future best-seller lists one day! 📚

More than a hundred War Eagles from Putnam County High School participated in the Smithsonian’s Voices and Votes exhibit today in Eatonton. Students in US History, Government, Civics, and 11th grade ELA classes encountered the story of American democracy through primary sources and interactive experiences that brought national history into local focus. Some rising seniors even registered to vote!
We cannot thank the incredible volunteers and docents from Georgia Writers Museum and the Old School History Museum enough for the time, care, and heart they poured into making this a meaningful and memorable learning experience for our future voters.

Service Leadership had the absolute joy of hosting the PCES Trailblazers for an Earth Day celebration! 🌎💚
Together, we made personal environmental resolutions, created art using recyclables the students collected, shared lunch, played games, and enjoyed popsicles in the sunshine. It was a day full of laughter, creativity, and meaningful connection.
These 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students—and their incredible teachers—have become so special to our Service Leadership students. The relationships built throughout this year are ones that will truly be missed when our seniors graduate.
Grateful for days like this that remind us what leadership and service are all about.

Today, our outstanding PCHS Work-Based Learning students participated in a Reverse Career Fair at The Plaza Arts Center. This engaging experience gave students the opportunity to highlight their employability skills and strengths directly to local business and industry partners.
Events like this are invaluable, offering real-world exposure and meaningful networking opportunities as students prepare for life beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud to see our Putnam County High School students shine and confidently demonstrate their readiness for the workforce.
